Help your mate

So you’ve ask “how is their day out of 10?” and the number wasn’t as high as you thought it would be. Need some ideas on how to ask the next question? Here's a series of questions that can be used as guidance to prompt supportive conversations when a mate's happiness score is lower than normal.

  • Start with Care and Empathy:

    • "Hey, I noticed your happiness score isn't that great today. What's up?"

    • “Hey mate, you seem a bit off. Wanna talk about what's bugging you?"

    • "Hey mate, everything cool? Something on your mind?"

  • Open-Ended Questions:

    • "Got a sec to chat? What's been going on that's got you feeling this way?"

    • "Tell me what's been happening – the good, the bad, the ugly."

    • "Spill the beans, buddy. What's been eating at you lately?"

  • Reflective and Active Listening:

    • "I'm all ears. How's this been affecting your vibe?"

    • "Seriously, talk to me. I'm here to listen and understand."

    • "Sounds like a rough patch. Give me the scoop?"

  • Offering Support:

    • "Remember, you're not going through this solo. I've got your back."

    • "Is there anything I can do? Wanna grab a coffee or something?"

    • "Hey, I'm in your corner. How can I make your day better?"

  • Encourage Self-Care:

    • "What usually picks you up when things are down?"

    • "How 'bout doing something fun? Watch a movie or go for a walk?"

    • "Mate, self-care time. What's your plan to turn that frown upside down?"

  • Exploring Solutions:

    • "Let's brainstorm. How can we tackle this together?"

    • "We're a team here. How do you think we can make things better?"

    • "No worries, mate. We'll figure it out. Any ideas on where to start?"

  • Checking on Progress:

    • "Quick check-in – how's the mood? Better, worse, or same?"

    • "Last time we talked, you had some thoughts. How's it playing out?"

    • "Progress report time! Feeling different from earlier?"

  • Suggesting Professional Help:

    • "Just a thought – chatting with a pro can be solid. Need help finding one?"

    • "Sometimes a chat with a therapist can work wonders. You up for that?"

    • "No pressure, but pro help is an option. Interested in exploring?"

Remember, the goal is to keep the conversation relaxed and relatable. Make sure your friends feel comfortable sharing without any pressure. If things seem serious, don’t hesitate to nudge them towards seeking professional support.
